Context Magazine
Our striking design for The Bedford Estates at 22 Bedford Square was featured last month in Context Magazine, The Institute of Historic Building Conservation’s journal. This journal is for conservation professionals and showcases projects in the historic built environment.
At Bedford Square, Edge had to use its technical expertise and appreciation of the past to sensitively restore this Grade 1 Listed Georgian building, respecting and preserving the past whilst taking the standards up to 'the now'.
Edge transformed two poorly linked and tired buildings into a single coherent space offering high quality, flexible, agile workspace with an emphasis on natural light, access to outside space and an interior focused on promoting wellbeing.
The architectural intervention of a dynamic new four storey, glazed ‘Link Building’ not only replaces the tired and unsightly connecting building that only housed toilets and ancillary spaces, it has added an additional 150 sq m of additional NIA to the property. The design of the ‘Link Building’, is an animated, tectonic structure, stacking differently articulated layers and gives the appearance of overlapping boxes.
